Hills M2 Integration
Find out more

Overview

The Hills M2 Integration project involved building an additional westbound lane on the M2 between Pennant Hills Road and Windsor Road to accommodate road users merging from the NorthConnex tunnel. The works started in 2016 spanning around four kilometres and involved excavating sandstone embankments up to 11 metres in height. The final alignment includes three westbound general purpose lanes and a dedicated bus lane.
The project was completed a month ahead of schedule in May 2018 with the additional westbound lane now providing travel time savings on one of Sydney’s most utilised motorways. Now that works are complete, the 80km/h roadwork speed limit has been reinstated to 100km/h after the Pennant Hills Road intersection.

Work to build the NorthConnex tunnel on and off ramps at the intersection of Pennant Hills Road and the Hills M2 Motorway is ongoing. An 80km/h speed limit remains in place in this area.

Third lane opens to traffic

A third westbound lane between Pennant Hills Road and Windsor Road on the Hills M2 Motorway has opened three months ahead of schedule, resulting in a safer and more efficient journeys for motorists.

Transurban Group General Manager for NSW, Kris Cooney, said accelerating this opening highlights Transurban’s commitment to easing congestion and improving traffic flow on one of Sydney’s busiest motorways.

“Fast tracking the opening of this westbound lane demonstrates our commitment to work hard at continually improving the journey of our Hills M2 customers.”
